Erotic roleplay, usually shortened to ERP, is collaborative roleplay in which the scene is explicitly sexual. Participants stay in character while writing intimate scenes together. In AI chat it refers to explicit roleplay with an AI character, as distinct from plain sexting.

The distinction between ERP and sexting matters more than it sounds. Sexting is direct and usually first-person; ERP keeps the fiction — established characters, a setting, narration alongside dialogue. People who want one are often disappointed by the other.
ERP is where the gap between advertised and actual capability shows up most sharply. It requires a model that will engage with explicit content and hold a persona over a long thread simultaneously. Plenty of platforms manage one but not both.
